The ancient kingdom of Benin is one of the oldest surviving civilizations in the world considered to be over 2000 years old.

Today the ancient kingdom of Benin is known as Benin City and is located in Edo State. The Eze Nri managed trade and diplomacy on behalf of the Nri people a subgroup of the Igbo-speaking people and possessed divine authority in religious matters.
