Where Was Ancient Benin Located

It is entirely separate from the Republic of Benin which was then known as Dahomey Benin arose as a city-state in the late 1100s or 1200s and expanded into a larger kingdom or empire in the mid-1400s. The kingdom of Benin began in the 900s when the Edo people settled in the rainforests of West Africa.

It saw the formation of various dynasties and is regarded as the cradle of civilization in Nigeria.

The Benin Kingdom was located in Western Africa it borders Burkina Faso and Nigeria. These are Niger to the northeast Nigeria to the east Togo to the west and Burkina Faso to the northeast. The ancient kingdom of Benin is one of the oldest surviving civilizations in the world considered to be over 2000 years old.
